New Year’s Resolutions
This year I have decided to spend more time focusing on my New Year’s Resolutions. I want to accomplish them this year and make these things a priority in my life. So keeping this in mind, I thought long and hard about what my word of the year would be. I really did think about this daily for about two weeks. I was struggling so I asked my mom for her advice. She really tried to help but I don’t think she fully understood the concept, as her response was “follow through”. She tried!
During this conversation though, it came to me. My word of the year is INTENT. I feel as though most days I am walking through them as a player in someone else’s game, like I am not an active participant in my own life; feeling almost as though what I do each day is not a valuable use of my time. This is why I chose intent as my word of the year. I want to be more intentional in my daily activities, thinking before I spend hours on social media of what I could be doing to better myself, my family, and my home.
So now that I have talked about my word of the year and why I decided it should be my mantra for 2019, let’s talk about my actual resolutions.
I want to make reading more of a habit in my life. To help with this, I would like to make a goal of reading one non-fiction/self help book and one fiction book a month. Self help/inspirational books are important to me as I find them helpful (for lack of a better word) and informative. Many of these books inspire me to make a change in my life and teach me ways to make my life better.
Another goal of mine is to cook two new recipes a month to expand my cooking ability and help with my nutrition. I want to be able to cook more and be able to cook for my family so this goal will help with that. In addition to this, I just got a KitchenAid Stand Mixer for Christmas. I want to bake an item at least once a month, whether it be something new or something I have already made. As long as I bake something, I will be happy.
My next resolution is to go on one photography outing a month. I really want to expand my photography skills and knowledge, especially by practicing. A great way to do this is to find a new spot each month to drive to and take pictures of the scenery. I’m not planning on driving far but there are so many cool areas near me to check out and I’m excited to see what I can find.
Along with my photography goal, I want to travel to at least three places, preferably new places but I will take what I can get. I know travel can be pricy but I want to make it more of a routine in my life since I love it so much. I’m not talking three huge trips though. I’m looking forward to planning weekend trips close by to towns I have never been to. To accompany the travel goal, I am hoping to complete the 52 Week Savings Challenge, where you save a dollar for week one, and two dollars for week two of the year and so on.
My last New Year’s Resolution is a big one for me. I plan on getting into more detail about this in a future blog post (come back in two weeks for it). Basically, I have joined the workout company Beachbody as a coach. I mainly joined as a coach for the discounts but am also interested in coaching others. My goal though is to workout at least four times a week. I am starting a new workout program in a few days that requires a workout six days a week for six weeks, but after that I want to make it my goal for at least four a week. I feel that this is manageable and will allow me to reach my weight loss goals without making it impossible to keep to.
